Advocacy Role

  • Active participation in the formulation of health policies.
  • Promote Family Medicine as an academic specialty and knowledge discipline of medical science.
  • Support the development of human resources training as “Multi Skilled and Competent Primary Care Physician”.
  • Creating awareness among public/ private agencies engaged in health care delivery regarding the Specialty of “Family Medicine” and creating an environment conducive to the recruitment of skilled family physicians.

Quality Education

1. Mandatory introduction of Family Medicine discipline in the MBBS program

2. Academic institutionalization of community health services

3. Develop community need-based undergraduate and postgraduate Family Medicine Training Curriculum

4. Promote residency-based full-time Family Medicine Training at the postgraduate level at NBE accredited institutions as well as university-based medical college hospitals and associated community-level health facilities.

5. Develop educational programs in the traditionally neglected areas of medical practice (in India) such as adolescent health, geriatrics, palliative care, clinical prevention, travel health, occupational health, environmental health, emergency medicine, home-based care, etc.

7. Organizing family medicine focus CMEs and conferences.

8. Promoting learning opportunities for residents, trainees, and medical officers.

Practice standardization and promotion

1. Education of practice management to practitioners and medical officers leading to an enhanced level of services available to individuals and communities.

2. Setting benchmarks and standards for the delivery of Family Medicine services.

3. Accreditation system for ongoing quality management.


Shouldering Public Health Responsibilities

1. Actively participate in National Health Programs.

2. Developing and providing human resources for National Rural Health Mission.

3. Developing and delivering patient and community education programs related to prevention, promotion, management, and rehabilitation of clinical as well as public health problems.
